About Mohamad M. Sawwaf

Mohamad Sawwaf is the Chief Executive Officer of Manzil, located in Toronto, Ontario In Canada. Mohamad is also a professor at Humber College, The Business School where he molds the next generation of financial advisors and is a proud husband and father.

Mohamad Sawwaf: A Lifelong Learner and Educator

In 2007, Mohamad Sawwaf obtained his Honours Bachelor of Life Science (BSc.) from the University of Toronto. During his BSc. studies, he also minored in Near & Middle Eastern Civilizations. Mr. Sawwaf went on to obtain his MBA from University of Toronto’s, Joseph L. Rotman School of Management in 2015.

From Toronto, Mohamad furthered his education in the UK. At the University of Reading’s Henley Business School, he pursued his Master of Science in Business Management & Research with Distinction. With his thesis: “Are Shareholders Adequately Compensated for Investing in Restricted Voting Shares of a Family Firm?”, he completed his degree in 2018. He is currently pursuing his doctorate, also at the University of Reading, with his thesis “Shariah Determinants of Corporate Governance for the Islamic Financial Industry.”

In addition to pursuing his own education, Mohamad Sawwaf helps others reach academic success. He acts as a professor at The Business School of Humber College and teaches courses including Customer Relationship Management, Strategic Management Capstone, Portfolio Management (CFA Level 1), Canadian Securities Course (CSC 1), Pension & Benefits, Financial Management, Supply Chain & International Logistics. He also teaches an Introduction to Corporate Finance at the Joseph L. Rotman School of Management.


Mohamad Sawwaf’s first role in the financial industry was as a Senior Division Director & Senior Financial Consultant for Investors Group Financial Services Inc. He also acted as Senior Regional Manager for TD Wealth and Head of Financial Planning at Planswell. From there, Mohamad became an entrepreneur with the creation of Manzil.

While working as a teacher’s assistant at the University of Toronto, Mohamad realized there was a void in financial services provided for the Islamic community. Appalled by this revelation, he decided then and there to create a financial outlet for the specific needs of the Islamic religion. He founded Manzil in 2017 and acts as the CEO.

Manzil actively practices Islamic Finance, filling the gap for this type of service in Canada that Mohamad initially saw. Through its unique alternative mortgage lending program, Manzil helps clients achieve their short- and long-term financial goals. Though the firm focuses on the principles of Islamic finance, their services are open to everyone.

Personal Life

Mohamad Sawwaf is a dedicated husband and father who loves to spend time with his two little boys. Mohamad also keeps a blog where he discusses plenty of topics related to the world of finance, including; financial tips and opinions, preferred tools of the trade and his path in founding Manzil.
